On Wednesday April 17th over 80 individuals and organisations from across Calderdale came together at Upstairs at Harvey’s to celebrate Calderdale Dementia Hub’s 2nd Birthday.
“I am definitely not alone”
Person with Dementia

The event was a celebration not just of what the Dementia Hub has achieved in the last two years but of the huge strides that have been made in dementia support across Calderdale. Our Service Manager, Neil, took us through a journey on the dementia pathway from pre-diagnosis and pointed out all the positive steps and additions that have been put in place over the last two years.
We were royally entertained by Witchfield Community Choir and by star turns from Phil Beckett and Mary Healey. Phil performed two of his self-penned poems to great laughter and applause. Mary took to the stage with her tutor Alyssa to perform on the piano. Mary started learning the piano at three months ago at the age of 80 determined that her Parkinson’s would not stand in her way. Playing two pieces. Mary wowed the crowd especially with her improvised piece
“It was an eye opener and definitely a day to learn”

Overall the feedback was great (despite some minor issues with the sound system). Attendees reported that not only was it a joyful, positive event but that they learnt about new services and provision.
